This is the view from near the Chapel at Bettneralp, (2136 metres), a 30 min hike from the ski resort of Belalp, which can be reached by cable car from Blatten in the valley below.
From Bettneralp you are rewarded with these fantastic views of the Aletsch glacier, where In July 2008, a few weeks after this photo was taken, a new 124m long hanging footbridge was opened across the end of the glacier. The large building is the Hotel Belalp.
Every August a traditional sheep festival is held here, known as the 'Schäferwochenende', when more than a 1,000 sheep are collected up via treacherous mountain tracks.
