This bay at the western end of Monmouth Beach is renowned for its collection of giant ammonite fossils dating back to the Jurassic period. They can be seen here at low tide in abundance embedded in the rocks, some up to 50cm in diameter, but because of their size and weight, cannot be collected and remain for all to admire.
Old railway lines are also uncovered here at low tide, which are relics of a 19th Century cement industry which once existed at Lyme Regis, when the cliffs were blasted away in order to quarry the layers of Blue Lias limestone seen here.
