The little Dorset village of Eype (meaning 'steep place') lies on Dorset's famous World Heritage Coast just west of the market town of
Bridport. It dates back to the late 18th century and this local beach is popular with fossil hunters, fishermen, and walkers.
On January 10th 2011, West Dorset District Council decided to put Eype Beach up for sale for the mere sum of £1 on the grounds that the beach doesn’t generate any income and costs too much to maintain. However the next day the Council stated that the land was not for sale after all.
