The Stockalper Palace Gardens
Kaspar Stockalper was a wealthy silk merchant, banker and politician who built this castle in Brig in the 17th century, and which at the time was the largest private building constructed in Switzerland. The palace has three towers with gilded onion domes, a chapel and the gardens seen here. Today the castle is the headquarters of Brig's municipal administration and students from the nearby University Centre often gather in these gardens below, especially at the end of the summer term.
