Switzerland

   This pass from Ulrichen in the canton of Valais to the Bedretto valley in the canton of Ticino, links the towns of Brig to Airolo. It was only opened to traffic in 1969. The view is from the top of the pass at 2478m. Looking towards the north is a spectacular view of the Bernese Alps, notably the Finsteraarhorn, with a view over the Gries Glacier to the south. This photo was taken in June 2011 on the day the pass was used for the Tour de Suisse cycle race.
