This was the beach in October 2007, which earlier had been strewn with the contents of the container ship MSC Napoli, grounded here in January 2007 on orders from the secretary of state. The beach is now restored to its pristine condition but the stern section of the ship, which can just be seen in the distance off Sidmouth, was too heavy to tow and was awaiting removal.
It wasn't until 2½ years later, on 30th July 2009, that the last remains of the Napoli were finally removed.
