The beautiful Lötschental Valley was isolated for centuries until the railway opened around 1910 and made it accessible by tunnel from Kandersteg. You travel from Interlaken by train through the tunnel to Goppenstein, from where you change to the local post-bus to continue on up the valley to the end of the road at Fafleralp .
You pass through the attractive little villages of Ferden, Kippel, Wiler, and
Blatten, to reach Fafleralp, from where you can continue on foot for as long as
you have time, passing the little lake Grundsee and on towards the foot of the
Lang glacier.
On your return you must make a point of stopping off at Blatten to explore this charming little village and to have a cup of coffee and torte, continuing on the next bus to Goppenstein.
This is a relatively long trip from Interlaken and requires careful timing so
as not to miss any connections.
