The Grindlewald Gorge
The Lower Grindlewald Glacier

The Lower Glacier Gorge or 'Unterer Gletscherschlucht' is reached after a 45min walk from Grindlewald town centre. There is an infrequent private bus service from the bus station which is the 'red' route marked 'Gletscherschlucht' and not the 'Obergletscher'.

Starting from the railway station walk up through the town and turn right before the church, signposted 'Pfingstegg Bahn', passing this cable-car station on your left. Continue on for a total of about 2km and you will reach the entrance hut to the gorge, for which there is a small fee to pay. The Gorge

This impressive gorge is about 1km long with wooden footways and tunnels built into the rock face from which you can view the spectacular rock walls towering up to 100 metres on each side. You will need a torch, a waterproof jacket and good footwear. After returning to the entrance, visit the exhibition of crystals and minerals by the entrance.

To return to Grindlewald there is a bus service but only about 5 times a day, so you will need to check the times beforehand, or walk. On the way back you can have a return trip on the Pfingstegg cable-car at 50% discount with your regional pass.
