Kleine Scheidegg
is the starting point for the cog railway ascent to the Jungfraujoch, and is
mainly a collection of restaurants, hotels and stations for the two rail links
from Grindlewald and Wengen. However it is an excellent base for hikes to
Grindlewald or Wengen, or you can travel one stop up to the Eiger Glacier
station, (50% discount with your regional pass), visit the husky dog centre,
and then follow the famous 'Eiger Trail' back down to Grindlewald. Just the
walk up to the dog centre and back is very invigorating, especially when it has
snowed recently.
There are two routes by train from Zweilutschinen to Kleine Scheidegg. One goes
up the Lütschen valley via Grindlewald and the other up the Lauterbrunnen
valley via Wengen. Whichever way you choose it is a good idea to make it a
circular route back to Zweilutschinen to take in more of the fantastic scenery.
If you go via Wengen then you can explore the village first and then walk on up to Kleine Scheidegg following the railway. From Kleine Scheidegg there are many hikes to choose from but be sure to keep to the marked paths. One suggestion is to walk back down to the middle gondelbahn station at Holenstein, take the cable-car down to Grund, and pick up the train for one stop back to Grindlewald.
