The Stockhorn at 2,190 metres is reached from the Simmental valley via a two stage cable-car. There is a small restaurant at the top and a short tunnel leading to a viewing platform on the other side of the mountain. A further short climb leads up to the peak with excellent views.
From the restaurant there is a relatively easy walk down starting by the steps, to the mid-station at Chrindi, via the two lakes which you can see from the top.
You will need about 1¼ hours to reach the small restaurant which you
walk around to reach the first lake, the Oberstockensee. If you are short of
time you can by-pass this lake and continue on to the second lake with the
island, the Hinterstockensee, and then to the mid-station at Chrindi.
You can walk down from the mid-station to Erlenbach in about 2 hours, or take
the easy way by cable-car.
