The town of Brantôme is one of the Dordogne’s greatest treasures, situated on the river Dronne that encircles a large part of the town. Over the bridge and along the riverside is the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Pierre founded in 769, and built into the cliffs behind are many caves which were once adapted for use by the monks.
